A High Court in Sokoto State has sentenced three men, including a foreign national from Niger Republic, to death by hanging after finding them guilty of terrorism-related offences and illegal arms trafficking.
The convicts—Yusuf Muhammad, popularly known as Sallau, a Nigerien, alongside Jabbi Alhaji Yalle and Kabiru Muhammad—were convicted on charges of terrorism and arms proliferation.
According to court records, the trio was arrested on June 13, 2025, by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) Counter Terrorism Unit during an operation targeting cross-border criminal networks involved in arms smuggling and terrorist activities.
The case, marked SS/45C/2026, was heard before Justice Muhammad Nuraddeen Bello of High Court No. 23 in Sokoto State. Delivering judgment, the judge found all three defendants guilty beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced them to death by hanging.
In addition to the death sentence, the court ordered that all cash and monetary exhibits recovered from the convicts be forfeited to the Federal Government.
Justice Bello described the conviction as another major breakthrough in the DSS’s ongoing campaign against terrorism and organized cross-border crimes, noting that security agencies remain committed to dismantling criminal networks threatening Nigeria’s national security.
The judgment marks one of the latest high-profile terrorism convictions secured by the DSS as authorities intensify efforts to combat insecurity across the country.
