
The Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into mourning following the heartbreaking death of veteran Nollywood actor and respected pastor, Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known as Elegbeje Ado.
The beloved Yoruba film icon reportedly passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, after battling a brief illness. He was 66 years old.
News of his death was confirmed by the founder of the Best of Nollywood Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, who shared the sad announcement in an emotional Instagram post that has left fans and colleagues paying tribute to the late screen legend.
Expressing his grief, Oloketuyi described Elegbeje Ado as a cherished Nollywood icon whose impact on the Yoruba movie industry will never be forgotten.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Pastor Taiwo Adeshina, a beloved Nollywood legend. Your remarkable contributions to the Yoruba movie industry and the lives you touched will never be forgotten. May God grant you eternal rest and comfort your family, friends, and fans. Rest in peace, legend,” he wrote.
For decades, Elegbeje Ado entertained millions with his memorable performances, earning admiration for his talent, humility, and dedication to the Yoruba film industry. Beyond acting, he was also known for his commitment to Christian ministry as a pastor.
His passing marks the end of an era, leaving a huge void in Nollywood and among the countless fans who grew up watching his movies.
