Popular Nigerian comedian and content creator Cute Abiola has addressed social media speculation linking him to cultism after an outfit he wore in an MTN advertisement raised questions among some internet users.

The comedian responded to the controversy on Instagram on Tuesday, August 11, after noticing that some people had begun associating his appearance with cult groups.

Cute Abiola denies cult affiliation

In a video shared on his page, Cute Abiola explained that the outfit was specifically worn for an MTN advertising campaign and had no connection to any cult group or organisation.

He said he initially ignored the comments but decided to respond after similar allegations began appearing in his private messages.

According to him, the outfit was simply part of the advert’s production.

He said:

“This cloth is for MTN advert that I did, and nothing else. I’m not anything because I have to make this video to debunk it.”

‘I’m just a Muslim’

Cute Abiola went on to firmly deny having any association with a cult group or any other organisation, stressing that he identifies simply as a Muslim.

He added:

“I’m not into anything or in any way, or associate myself, I’m just a Muslim. I’m just a man.”

The comedian also addressed people who might interpret his decision to respond as a sign that he was scared by the allegations.

He explained that he simply wanted to clarify the situation and put an end to the speculation.

“Not that I am scared, but I just have to say it. And if you say I’m scared, I’m scared, please.”

The clarification comes after the outfit used for the MTN campaign generated discussions online, with some social media users drawing their own conclusions about its appearance. Cute Abiola has now made it clear that the clothing was strictly connected to the advertising production.
