Afrobeat superstar Davido has sparked reactions online after seemingly hinting that he may have his own side of a music industry story to tell.

His comment came amid the ongoing drama between singer Shallipopi and music executive Dapper, with Shallipopi alleging that more than $1 million belonging to him was being withheld.

Davido hints at his own story

Reacting to the growing conversation around record labels and artists, Davido shared a now-deleted post claiming that he also wanted to speak out but had been restrained by members of his team.

According to the singer, his manager Asa Asika and another associate identified as Banks had been preventing him from talking.

“Since everybody dey vex for their label. Me I wan talk o, na Asa and Bank dey hold my mouth since. No worry, no be now. The time will come. E go pass Peter own.”

Davido’s reference to Peter Okoye appears to allude to the lengthy public fallout between Peter, his twin brother Paul Okoye and their elder brother Jude Okoye.

Davido has faced allegations over payments

The singer’s statement has generated further curiosity because he has previously faced allegations from individuals who claimed they were owed money.

In 2024, music producer Napji accused Davido of owing him royalties for his work on songs including “Fem,” “Jowo” and “Sunlight.” Davido responded dismissively to the allegation at the time.

Former NFF president Amaju Pinnick also previously sued Davido over an alleged breach of a performance agreement, seeking billions of naira in damages. The dispute was later reportedly resolved out of court.

Photographer and businessman Abu Salami also publicly accused the singer of reneging on a contract, while model Adetutu Alabi claimed she was yet to receive payment after appearing in one of Davido’s music videos.

Davido’s latest comment, however, does not specify what story he intends to tell or whether it is connected to any of those previous allegations.

For now, his warning that “the time will come” has left fans wondering what exactly he plans to reveal.
