
Tension and fear have reportedly gripped residents in parts of Plateau State after suspected bandits launched a terrifying attack on an illegal mining site, leaving tragedy and heartbreak in their wake.
Reports gathered revealed that at least two persons lost their lives after armed attackers, believed to be suspected Fulani herdsmen, invaded a mining location in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.
The shocking incident reportedly happened in Kedawa village on Monday afternoon, throwing the community into confusion as gunmen stormed the area and unleashed chaos before disappearing without a trace.
According to security sources, operatives of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) quickly swung into action after receiving distress information about the deadly invasion. On getting to the scene, troops reportedly made a grim discovery — the lifeless bodies of two victims identified as Mr. Napan Danjuma and Mr. Leba.
In a twist that has left many talking, security personnel were also said to have rescued one survivor from the terrifying ordeal, although details surrounding the victim’s condition remain unclear at the time of filing this report.
A security source disclosed that the attack allegedly occurred around 1:30 p.m. on May 11, with the attackers fleeing moments before military operatives arrived at the scene.
The latest violence has once again raised fresh concerns over worsening insecurity in Plateau communities, especially areas battling illegal mining activities and recurring attacks by armed groups.
Residents are now said to be living in fear as authorities intensify efforts to track down those behind the bloody assault.
