Drama unfolded in Kano after operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) reportedly arrested a young man accused of vandalising materials linked to the Federal Government’s Kaduna-Kano railway project.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Sani Ismail, was allegedly caught after intelligence reports tipped off security operatives about suspicious activities surrounding the ongoing railway construction. Authorities said the suspect hails from Kuya village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State but was apprehended in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to the NSCDC, preliminary findings revealed that the suspect allegedly removed eleven rail line clips installed on the new standard gauge railway project currently under construction. Officials described the act as a serious threat to national infrastructure, especially on a project considered vital to transportation development.
Security operatives also claimed to have recovered a hammer believed to have been used in removing the railway components, further raising suspicions around the alleged operation.
But the railway vandalism case was not the only shocking twist.
In another dramatic development, the NSCDC also confirmed the arrest of two young men accused of impersonating civil defence volunteers in Kano. The suspects, Yusuf Usman and Muhd Auwal, both aged 22, were said to be residents of Kawo Jirga in Nassarawa Local Government Area.
Authorities alleged that the duo operated from a location branded with the NSCDC logo despite not being officially registered as volunteers in the agency’s database. The suspects reportedly used the fake setup to intimidate and allegedly harass members of the public, including a social media comedian said to have been maltreated.
The command disclosed that investigations into the impersonation case had been concluded, adding that legal action would be taken against the suspects.
The incident has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over increasing cases of vandalism and impersonation linked to security agencies.
