“Borno Horror! Soldiers Cheat Death After Deadly Roadside Bomb Explodes — What Troops Discovered Next Will Shock You”

Four Soldiers Injured as Troops Survive Deadly IED Blast, Terror Ambush in Borno

Tension gripped parts of Borno State after troops narrowly escaped what could have turned into a devastating tragedy following a deadly roadside bomb explosion and a fierce ambush by suspected terrorists along the dangerous Damboa–Kumala–Maiduguri highway.

The terrifying incident reportedly left four soldiers injured after military personnel came under heavy attack while carrying out a patrol mission on one of the state’s most sensitive supply routes.

According to security reports shared by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the dramatic attack unfolded at about 11:45 am on Saturday, May 16, around nine kilometres from Kumala Junction in Konduga Local Government Area.

Sources revealed that troops attached to the 25 Brigade were conducting a dominance patrol when suspected terrorists allegedly detonated a command-operated Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along the road. Moments after the blast, the soldiers reportedly walked straight into a coordinated ambush.

In what many have described as a fierce survival battle, the troops fought back against the attackers despite the chaos that followed the explosion. However, four military personnel sustained injuries during the gunfire exchange.

As panic spread across the route, military authorities swiftly mobilised reinforcement teams from the brigade headquarters, including an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, to secure the area and prevent further disaster.

But the shocker didn’t end there.

During a sweep of the route, bomb disposal experts reportedly uncovered another suspected explosive device hidden along the same corridor, raising fears that the attackers may have planned an even deadlier strike. Thankfully, the device was successfully detected and neutralised before causing harm.

Amid growing security concerns, troops also reportedly escorted 89 civilian vehicles safely through the volatile road to avoid possible attacks. Meanwhile, 165 vehicles were forced to return to Damboa as authorities tightened safety measures due to the heightened threat level.

The latest attack once again highlights the persistent security challenges facing military operations and civilian movement in parts of Borno, where troops continue to battle insurgent threats and hidden explosives on major routes.
