Tension is rising in Kano after a dramatic crackdown by anti-drug operatives led to the arrest of dozens of suspects just days before the Eid al-Kabir celebration.
In what many residents are calling a massive pre-Sallah cleanup, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, reportedly swooped down on several notorious drug spots across the Kano metropolis, leaving many stunned.
According to reports, no fewer than 38 suspects were arrested during a fierce two-day operation aimed at flushing out criminal activities before the festive season kicks off.
The operation, carried out under the agency’s ongoing “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” reportedly targeted several high-risk areas believed to be major centers for drug-related activities. Locations affected by the surprise raid included Fagge, Hotoro, Gyadi Gyadi, Kofar Mata, Sheka, and Farm Centre.
Sources revealed that operatives recovered several suspicious substances and items during the raid, including Cannabis sativa, Exol-5, Diazepam, the dangerous street substance nicknamed “Suck and Die,” rubber solution, and locally fabricated weapons.
The spokesperson of the Kano Strategic Command, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, disclosed that the operation was deliberately intensified to stop criminals from taking advantage of the Sallah period to spread illegal activities across the city.
Officials insist the agency is not backing down anytime soon, warning that more raids could happen as authorities push to keep Kano streets safe during the festive celebration.
Meanwhile, all arrested suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, with many now waiting to see whether more shocking arrests will follow in the coming days.
