Fear and concern are gradually spreading across Osun State after fresh warnings emerged over the possible threat of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease, as authorities urge residents not to let their guard down.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Osun State has reportedly called on residents to remain extremely cautious and strictly follow preventive health measures amid growing global worries about the virus and fears of international transmission.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the agency’s State Director, Adebiyi Adefarasin Stephen, residents were strongly advised to stay vigilant, despite Nigeria not recording any confirmed Ebola case at the moment.
According to the agency, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has already placed the country on high alert due to concerns surrounding the disease and its potential to spread across borders.
The NOA boss reportedly stressed that people should begin taking serious precautions to protect themselves, their loved ones, and communities from the highly dangerous virus.
He explained that Ebola can spread through direct contact with blood, body fluids, or infected animals, making hygiene and caution more important than ever.
Adefarasin also highlighted some of the warning signs linked to the disease, including sudden fever, body weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea, and unexplained bleeding.
Residents were further encouraged to maintain proper hygiene by washing hands regularly with soap and clean water, while avoiding close contact with sick individuals and bush meat consumption.
The agency also advised members of the public to immediately report any suspected symptoms or unusual illness to the nearest healthcare facility, stressing that early action could save lives.
“Quick reporting and proper hygiene remain the strongest weapons against Ebola,” the statement emphasized.
Meanwhile, residents across Osun have been urged to stay calm and avoid panic, relying only on verified updates from official health authorities rather than rumours spreading online.
Could this be a timely warning Nigerians should take seriously, or are people already becoming too relaxed about health safety? Drop your thoughts below!
