Popular social commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM) has once again stirred controversy after boldly confronting soldiers and police officers outside the Ministry of Defence with a message that has since ignited heated debates across social media.
Standing directly before men in uniform, VDM delivered a blunt reality check that many Nigerians say needed to be said.
According to him, after decades of dedicated service, many security personnel are often left with little to show for their sacrifices. He questioned the system that sends officers into dangerous situations while those in positions of power continue to enjoy luxury and protection.
“After 35 years of service, what will you have to show for it?” he reportedly asked. “You protect a government that cannot even guarantee the safety of your own families. While top officials travel in private jets, many of you still risk your lives on unsafe roads because you cannot afford the same comfort.”
What shocked many observers was not just the content of his message, but the audience he chose. Rather than criticizing security agencies from afar, VDM addressed the officers directly, urging them to recognize that they also face the same economic hardship, insecurity, and struggles affecting ordinary Nigerians.
He stressed that the problem is not the individuals wearing the uniform but a system that often places them in difficult positions while providing limited rewards in return.
VDM further reminded them that a time would come when the uniform would be removed, salaries would stop, and retirement would return many of them to the same communities battling poverty, unemployment, and insecurity.
His central question was simple yet powerful: when that day comes, will they be proud of the choices they made when they had the opportunity to stand for what they believed was right?
The remarks have generated widespread reactions online, with supporters praising his courage while critics argue that the issue is more complex than he presented.
Interestingly, some observers noted similarities between VDM’s message and arguments previously made by separatist leader during his broadcasts on Radio Biafra, where he frequently urged security personnel to reflect on their role within society and the long-term consequences of governance failures.
