COURT SUMMONS KENNETH OKONKWO! Legal Battle With Peter Obi Escalates Over Bribery Allegations

A fresh legal showdown is unfolding after an Anambra State High Court summoned politician Kenneth Okonkwo to answer allegations he made against former presidential candidate Peter Obi.

The court’s action marks a significant development in the high-profile dispute, with Okonkwo now expected to defend claims that Obi and other political figures demanded money from aspirants seeking election tickets.

The case has attracted widespread public attention after both men stood firmly by their positions. While Obi insists the allegations are false and defamatory, Okonkwo maintains that he possesses evidence to support his claims.

With the matter now before the court, attention has shifted from public exchanges to legal proceedings, where both parties will have the opportunity to present their arguments and evidence.

The writ of summons was issued by an Anambra State High Court following a defamation suit filed by Peter Obi against Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The lawsuit stems from comments Okonkwo made during an appearance on an online television programme on June 8, 2026, where he alleged that Obi and leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the South-East demanded additional payments from aspirants seeking House of Representatives and Senate tickets.

Okonkwo also claimed that documentary evidence, including receipts, existed to support the allegations and further alleged that Obi personally compiled candidates’ lists from a hotel room in Abuja.

Following the interview, Obi’s legal team, led by Chief Alex Ejesieme (SAN), demanded a public retraction, apology, ₦5 billion in damages, and an undertaking that similar statements would not be repeated. Okonkwo rejected the demands, insisting his claims were true and releasing what he described as supporting materials, including WhatsApp conversations and receipts.

Obi subsequently approached the Anambra State High Court, seeking damages, a public apology and retraction, as well as a perpetual injunction restraining Okonkwo from making further allegedly defamatory statements. The case is yet to be heard, and the court has not made any findings on the merits of the allegations.:::
