A disturbing case of mob violence has sparked outrage after a man was allegedly beaten by a group of individuals in Onitsha over an accusation that later turned out to be false.
The victim desperately pleaded for his life throughout the attack, repeatedly swearing that he had not stolen any money. Despite his emotional appeals, the crowd allegedly ignored his cries and continued the assault.
The incident, captured in a video now circulating widely on social media, has reignited concerns over the growing trend of jungle justice and the dangers of punishing people without proper investigation.
Human rights advocates have strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a serious violation of the victim’s fundamental rights and warning that such acts of mob justice have no place in a lawful society.
According to reports, the man was attacked by unidentified individuals in Onitsha, Anambra State, after being accused of stealing money. However, it was later established that the allegation against him was false.
The Chairman of the Human Rights Defenders (HURIDE), Ebonyi State chapter, Sampson Iko Nweke, confirmed that the victim was innocent and criticized the assault in strong terms.
Nweke stated that no individual should be subjected to violence based on unverified allegations, emphasizing that disputes and criminal accusations should always be handled through lawful procedures.
He urged the victim to seek legal redress and appealed to anyone who knows him to assist in ensuring he receives justice, while calling for greater public awareness to discourage acts of jungle justice and protect the rights of all citizens.
