A devastating crash in east London has claimed the lives of two teenagers and left another battling for survival, triggering a major police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
The horrific incident unfolded on a busy roadway, where multiple vehicles were involved in a crash so severe that one vehicle was reportedly engulfed in flames, leaving emergency responders racing to save those trapped.
As grieving families struggle to come to terms with the tragedy, police have arrested three suspects while investigators work to determine exactly what led to the deadly collision.
Authorities have also appealed to the public to avoid sharing distressing videos of the aftermath on social media, urging people to respect the privacy and dignity of the victims and their loved ones.
Emergency services responded to reports of the multi-vehicle collision on the eastbound carriageway of the A13 in Newham, east London, at about 8:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Despite efforts by emergency responders, two young men aged 18 and 19 were pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people were taken to hospital, including a 16-year-old boy who remains in a critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that three men aged 18, 19, and 23 have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop. They remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Detective Chief Inspector James Beck of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit expressed sympathy for the victims’ families and appealed to anyone with information or dashcam footage to assist the investigation. Police also urged members of the public not to circulate graphic footage of the crash out of respect for those affected.
