A terrifying scene unfolded in the Alakija area of Lagos State after a building suddenly collapsed, trapping several people beneath the rubble and sending residents into panic. In a dramatic rescue operation, the Nigerian Navy sprang into action, helping to pull survivors from the debris and rushing them to safety.
According to a statement released by the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Navy immediately responded after receiving a distress call about the disaster. Rescue personnel quickly arrived at the scene and joined other emergency responders in a coordinated effort to save lives.
Thanks to the swift intervention and dedication of the rescue teams, several victims were successfully rescued from the collapsed structure and immediately evacuated for urgent medical attention. The injured were taken to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital in Ojo, where they are currently receiving emergency treatment and continuous medical care.
Captain Folorunsho emphasized that the Nigerian Navy remains fully committed to providing the necessary medical support to everyone affected by the tragic incident.
Commending the bravery of the rescue team, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, praised the professionalism and courage displayed during the operation. He also expressed appreciation to other emergency agencies and members of the public whose combined efforts made the rescue mission successful.
The Naval Chief extended heartfelt sympathy to the families affected by the unfortunate disaster and wished those receiving treatment a speedy recovery.
He further reassured Nigerians that the Nigerian Navy remains prepared to provide humanitarian assistance and support to civil authorities whenever emergencies arise, in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
The cause of the building collapse has not yet been officially disclosed, while investigations are expected to determine what led to the tragic incident.
