Popular Nigerian streamer and comedian Carter Efe has found himself at the center of a major controversy after Babcock University publicly accused him of presenting an allegedly forged academic certificate and announced plans to take legal action.
The drama began after Carter Efe appeared in an interview with Egungun of Lagos, where he claimed he graduated from Babcock University with a degree in Biochemistry. To support his claim, he later shared what he described as his graduation certificate on his X (formerly Twitter) page, boasting that he finished with top honors.
However, the prestigious private university has strongly denied the authenticity of the document.
In a public statement, Babcock University described the certificate as fraudulent, stressing that it does not recognize any academic classification called “First Class Upper,” the distinction that appeared on the document shared online.
The institution also clarified that it does not issue honorary certificates for undergraduate academic performance, urging members of the public not to be misled by the circulating document.
According to the university, anyone seeking to verify academic qualifications should do so through its Office of the Registrar.
The statement further warned that the institution would pursue appropriate legal action against those responsible for producing and circulating the alleged forged certificate.
The development has sparked intense reactions across social media, with many Nigerians debating whether the incident was meant as a joke or if it could result in serious legal consequences.
As of the time of filing this report, Carter Efe has not publicly responded to Babcock University’s latest statement.
