Nigerian entertainment circles have been thrown into surprise following the dramatic career shift of popular Nollywood actor, Joseph Momodu, who has officially stepped away from acting to enlist in the United States Army.
Momodu made the revelation via an Instagram post, confirming that he has begun a new life in military service just months after relocating to the United States. The announcement has since sparked reactions from fans who knew him for his on-screen roles in Nollywood productions.
In a reflective message, the actor described his enlistment as the fulfillment of a long-held personal dream, while also dedicating the milestone to his late father, who once served in the Nigeria Police Force before passing away two decades ago.
On April 12, 2026, I honoured my late father in a historic way,” he wrote. “Twenty years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigeria Police Force and carried it forward by getting enlisted into the United States Army.
He further admitted that the journey was not without emotional struggle, revealing moments of doubt along the way. According to him, there were times he questioned his decision, but he remained focused on achieving his goal despite the challenges.
Momodu is now officially serving as Specialist (SPC) J.A. Momodu with the 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3-10, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
His transition adds to a growing list of Nollywood personalities who have reportedly pursued military careers in the United States, including Mayowa Dosu and Grace-Charis Bassey, further fueling conversations about career reinvention among Nigerian entertainers abroad.
