Veteran Nollywood icon Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has sparked widespread reactions after delivering a powerful message against gender-based violence, urging men across Nigeria to stop abusing women and start treating them with the dignity they deserve.
The legendary actor made the passionate appeal in Abuja after becoming a key stakeholder in the Male Feminists Network, a group committed to promoting gender equality and ending violence against women.
Speaking at the event, RMD emphasized that women deserve greater opportunities and representation, especially in leadership and government. Drawing from his own experience, he revealed that around 80 percent of the crew on one of his recent film projects were women, praising their dedication and professionalism.
According to the Nollywood star, women have consistently proven their ability to deliver results, stressing that empowering them is beneficial not only for families but for the nation as a whole.
RMD also issued a direct warning to abusive men, insisting that disagreement should never lead to physical violence. He urged men to respect women as they would their own daughters, wives, or loved ones, stressing that communication is always a better solution than aggression.
The actor further noted that gender-based violence remains a serious societal issue fueled by harmful attitudes and systemic discrimination. He maintained that ending the menace is not a battle women should fight alone, calling on men to become active allies by speaking out against abuse and supporting organizations working to protect women’s rights.
His emotional remarks have since sparked conversations online, with many applauding the veteran actor for using his influence to challenge toxic behavior and advocate for a safer society for women.
