Afrobeats superstar Davido has come under fire on social media after publicly urging Osun State residents not to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the state’s governorship election.

The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, had taken to X to criticise APC supporters in Osun, describing them as enemies of progress.

Davido wrote:

“Anybody supporting APC in Osun state is an enemy of progress! Lessons will be learnt this weekend.”

Davido accused of emotional blackmail

Reacting to the singer’s post, an X user identified as Senior Pst Okezie James Atañi accused Davido of attempting to influence voters through emotional pressure.

He also argued that Osun State should not be regarded as the possession of any political family.

He wrote:

“David Adeleke @davido emotional blackmail WILL NOT work this time…… Osun state is not FAMILY INHERITANCE.”

The post included an infographic highlighting members of the Adeleke family and their reported political and government positions over the years.

Adeleke family’s political influence questioned

The infographic referenced prominent members of the Adeleke family, including the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, who served as governor of Osun State, and current Governor Ademola Adeleke.

It also highlighted other relatives who have reportedly occupied political or government positions, with Davido included in connection with the Osun Sports Trust Fund.

The development has reignited discussions about the influence of the Adeleke family in Osun politics and whether celebrity endorsements can significantly sway voters.

Davido backs his uncle

Davido has been one of the most vocal supporters of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

He has participated in campaign activities and youth mobilisation efforts while repeatedly criticising the opposition on social media.

Adeleke is seeking another term in office under the Accord Party, while APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji is also in the race.

With the election fast approaching, Davido’s latest comments have added another layer to the political battle, with Nigerians online divided over the role of celebrities and influential political families in the state’s electoral affairs.
