Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed how much she and her fellow producers actually received after her movie Mother’s Love grossed more than ₦103 million at the Nigerian cinemas.

The actress disclosed the figures while giving an account of the movie’s cinema performance and expressing gratitude for the success recorded during its theatrical run.

Omotola reveals what producers received

According to Omotola, Mother’s Love generated a total cinema gross of ₦103,094,663.

However, the amount that eventually accrued to the producers was significantly lower after several deductions were made.

She explained that the deductions included payments to exhibitors and distributors, printing and advertising costs, Value Added Tax (VAT), entertainment tax, withholding tax and other cinema-related charges.

After all the deductions, the producers reportedly received ₦22,276,558.

Entire ₦22.2m donated to charity

Omotola revealed that none of the money was retained by the producers.

According to the actress, 100 per cent of the ₦22,276,558 received by the producers was donated to Slum to School, a non-governmental organisation supporting children and education.

She said the donation was made in fulfilment of a previous commitment by Red Hot Concepts.

The actress expressed appreciation for everyone who supported the movie and helped make its cinema run successful.

The reality behind ₦103m cinema gross

Omotola’s disclosure has sparked attention to the difference between a film’s reported box-office gross and the amount that ultimately reaches its producers.

While Mother’s Love crossed the ₦100 million mark at the cinemas, the producers’ final share after the various deductions was just over ₦22 million.

Rather than keeping the proceeds, however, the entire amount was reportedly channelled towards charity, turning the movie’s commercial success into a contribution to education and support for children.
