Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun (AY) has opened up about a deeply personal chapter of his life, revealing why he stopped attending church for a period.
In a video shared on his social media page, the entertainer explained that he withdrew from physical church services after becoming the subject of negative stories circulating online. According to AY, the situation made him uncomfortable, as he feared being judged or becoming the center of whispers whenever he attended church.
Instead of attending in person, he said he chose to worship online while navigating that difficult season of his life.
AY disclosed that when he eventually decided to return by attending another church, he encountered another disappointing experience. He claimed he was removed from an upcoming church programme after concerns were reportedly raised about how the public might react to his participation.
The incident, he said, made him reflect on the role of the church and whether public opinion had become more important than an individual’s relationship with God.
Questioning the situation, the comedian asked whether the church is truly meant to be a place for everyone, especially those seeking healing, acceptance, and spiritual growth.
His revelation has sparked conversations across social media, with many Nigerians sharing mixed opinions about judgment within religious communities and the importance of embracing people regardless of the challenges they may be facing.
