Panic as Fire Tears Through Popular Kwara Market, Leaving Traders Heartbroken
There was confusion, tears, and total panic in parts of Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday after a raging fire ripped through a popular market, destroying several shops and goods reportedly worth millions of naira.
The terrifying incident left traders in shock as the flames spread rapidly, turning valuable goods into ashes before help could arrive.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire allegedly began inside one locked shop before quickly escalating into nearby stalls. Within moments, fabrics, food items, and several other products were consumed by the fierce blaze, leaving shop owners helpless.
What started as a normal business day suddenly turned into a nightmare, as frightened traders and residents reportedly screamed for help while watching years of hard work disappear in flames.
> “We suddenly heard people shouting ‘Fire! Fire!’ and before anyone could react, the situation became uncontrollable. Everyone was confused and running for safety,” an eyewitness recounted.
Although authorities are yet to officially confirm the exact cause of the inferno, many traders suspect an electrical fault may have triggered the disaster.
In a desperate race against time, firefighters alongside market leaders reportedly battled to stop the flames from spreading to other sections of the busy market, preventing what could have turned into an even bigger catastrophe.
For many affected traders, however, the damage had already been done, with countless goods destroyed and hopes temporarily shattered as they struggle to count their losses.
Could this heartbreaking market tragedy have been avoided? Residents are now demanding answers as investigations continue.
