Tension turned into relief in parts of Benue State after troops attached to Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) reportedly pulled off a dramatic rescue mission that left suspected kidnappers fleeing for their lives.
The shocking incident unfolded along the Ochumekwu–Ugbobi road in Apa Local Government Area, where armed criminals allegedly swooped in and kidnapped two unsuspecting victims, sparking panic in the community.
But in what many are already calling a swift and heroic intervention, security operatives from Sector 2 of OPWS stationed in Ochumekwu wasted no time after receiving an emergency distress signal about suspicious movements and an ongoing abduction in the area.
Sources revealed that the troops immediately swung into action, racing to the location only to discover that the gunmen had already escaped with the victims.
Refusing to back down, the soldiers reportedly launched an intense pursuit, tracking the kidnappers through nearby bushes and rough terrain in a desperate effort to stop the criminals from vanishing.
In what could be described as a major twist, the pressure from the advancing troops allegedly became too much for the kidnappers to handle, forcing them to abandon their captives and flee into hiding.
Thankfully, the two victims were rescued alive and safely recovered from the frightening ordeal.
Authorities disclosed that the rescued individuals have since been handed over to the police for proper identification and further procedures.
Meanwhile, security forces are said to have tightened patrols and increased surveillance around the area as efforts continue to hunt down the fleeing suspects and prevent another terrifying incident.
Residents are now hoping this dramatic rescue sends a strong warning to criminals terrorizing communities in the state.
