Drama is boiling in Iwo, Osun State, as a fresh royal battle has erupted around the throne of the Oluwo of Iwo, with angry princes from three ruling houses dragging the monarch to court in a shocking case that has left many residents talking.
The royal storm began after some members of the Ogunmakinde Ande, Adegunodo, and Alausa ruling houses accused the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, of allegedly ordering the exhumation of the remains of past kings buried within the palace grounds — an allegation now fueling serious controversy across the kingdom.
In a lawsuit reportedly filed before the Osun State High Court, the aggrieved princes are not holding back. They are demanding nothing short of the monarch’s removal from the throne, claiming his alleged actions violated the sacred customs and traditions of Iwo land.
According to court documents, the claimants argued that the alleged disturbance of the burial site of former Oluwos, known as Ileta, was unlawful, morally wrong, and completely against long-standing traditional practices. They insist that such actions have deeply offended the customs that govern the royal institution.
But the royal drama doesn’t stop there.
The princes are reportedly asking the court to declare the Oluwo throne vacant and compel authorities to begin a fresh selection process, allowing the next eligible ruling house to nominate a new candidate in line with traditional rotation and Osun State chieftaincy laws.
As if the palace tension was not enough, the suit also touched on allegations involving the arrest and detention of one of the claimants, who reportedly faced police invitation in Abuja over what was described as a civil matter linked to alleged defamation.
The claimants are now seeking legal protection against what they describe as intimidation, while also urging the court to temporarily stop Oba Akanbi from functioning as Oluwo until the case is settled.
However, the Oluwo appears completely unshaken by the legal firestorm.
Reacting through his media aide, the monarch reportedly dismissed the lawsuit with strong words, branding the aggrieved princes as mere “noise makers.” The palace also insisted that no one can remove the king, arguing that his reign has brought visible progress to Iwo.
Now, tongues are wagging as many wait to see whether this royal showdown will end in peace, palace reconciliation, or an even bigger courtroom explosion.
