The streets of Jos were thrown into panic over the weekend as security operatives launched a surprise crackdown on notorious drug hubs, leading to the arrest of 25 suspected dealers and users.
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed that a major operation carried out on Saturday targeted criminal hideouts known for the sale and distribution of cannabis, controlled drugs, and other prohibited substances.
According to police spokesperson SP Alfred Alabo, the operation was spearheaded by the Officer-in-Charge of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) alongside officers from the Anglo-Jos Division, the Anti-Cybercrime and Narcotic Unit, and the Monitoring Team.
The coordinated raid focused on notorious hotspots around Old Airport Junction and Fwavei Junction in Jos, areas reportedly linked to the illegal drug trade and other criminal activities.
During the operation, officers swooped on the locations, apprehending 25 suspects believed to be involved in the illicit business. Several quantities of cannabis, controlled medications, and other banned substances were also recovered and taken into police custody as evidence.
Authorities revealed that the raid forms part of ongoing efforts to rid Plateau communities of drug-related crimes and restore public safety.
Reacting to the successful operation, Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, commended the officers for their courage, professionalism, and teamwork. He reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements and warned those involved in the drug trade to either abandon their activities or face the full weight of the law.
Residents have welcomed the development, expressing hope that continued security operations will help curb the growing menace of drug abuse and related crimes across the state.
