
A tense night unfolded in Owo, Ondo State, after suspected kidnappers allegedly launched a daring operation to abduct a prominent pastor, only to be met with fierce resistance from police officers in a dramatic gun battle.
The shocking incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening when armed criminals invaded the residence of Pastor Taiwo Taiwo, the Chairman of Ojana New Area in Owo Local Government Area.
According to information released by the Ondo State Police Command, the six-member gang stormed the pastor’s residence with plans to whisk him away. However, their mission quickly turned into chaos after security operatives received an emergency alert and raced to the scene.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that officers attached to B Division in Owo acted swiftly after receiving a distress call around 7:05 p.m. The Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilized a patrol team and led the operation to confront the armed suspects.
Upon arrival, the officers reportedly came face-to-face with the kidnappers, triggering an intense exchange of gunfire that sent residents into panic. Witnesses said the sound of gunshots echoed through the area as security operatives battled the criminals.
Unable to withstand the police response, the suspected kidnappers reportedly fled into nearby bushes, abandoning their plot and leaving behind their intended victim.
Thankfully, Pastor Taiwo Taiwo and members of his family escaped the frightening ordeal without injuries. Security operatives later moved them to a safer location as a precautionary measure.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the activities of kidnappers across parts of the country, even as residents continue to call for stronger security measures to protect lives and property.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent future attacks in the area.
